São Tomé and Príncipe
Until recently, Sao Tome and Principe had a 3-6-3-3 formal education structure. There are still three years of pre-primary school, which has an official entry age of three and is referred to as pré-escolar. Primary school, which is divided into two levels known as ensino primário, primeiro ciclo (four grades) and ensino primário, segundo ciclo (two grades), still has an official entry age of six and a duration of six grades. At the end of the cycle, students receive the diploma de conclusão da sexta classe (ensino básico ou seja ensino primário). Secondary school is still divided into two cycles: lower secondary and upper secondary.
Lower secondary, which is known as ensino secundário (primeiro ciclo), still consists of grades 7-9 and culminates in the certificado de conclusão do primeiro ciclo do ensino secundário. In the 3-6-3-3 system, upper secondary, which is known as ensino secundário (segundo ciclo), consisted of grades 10-12 and culminated in the certificado de conclusão da decima segunda classe. In addition, Sao Tome and Principe has two upper secondary vocational education tracks that each last three years (ISCED 2011 mapping for 2015 school year).
